Can you take Prednisone and Uceris at the same time?

My son is tapering Prednisone, down to 20mg from 40mg. He is going to have Fecal Transplant done on July 16, so the GI suggested that he start Uceris, just to make sure the inflammation is kept down. I was just curious if anyone else has used the combination together? Even though the GI said its ok to take them, I'm looking for personal experience from people who have used them.

Wow...That's fantastic. I've heard that Uceris can only be taken for 8 weeks, is that true?

So..... 40mg to 20 mg. That's a huge jump! Pred should be tapered slower usually. How long has he been taking it for?

From my knowledge and what my GI told me: Yes.

I didn't taper it either.

I was taking it at the same time as I took low doses of pred, in an attempt to tone down symptoms to full remission. It did work fairly well for me for two weeks and then suddenly I flared much worse on it. I tried to use pred to quash the flare on top of uceris but it wasnt working that well, until I stopped uceris, and then the pred kicked in fast... So in my case uceris seems to have caused me to flare. I even tried adding uceris back in to be sure, and low and behold started flaring again.

As far as side effects go, I found it about the equivalent of 10 mg pred, while giving 40 mg pred of benefits, while it worked anyway. The manufacturer did some study with 6 mg (as opposed to the 9 they now sell; I think 6 is sold in Europe though along with 9) for longer term therapy, 12 mos or something, claiming no more side effects than placebo. i find that hard to believe personally. But in the Us the 9 is only supposed to be used for 8 weeks, though I bet some GI's would let you take it for longer if they are the laid back types.
