Should I stop taking VSL#3 if...

I'm having worse gas, bloating, diarrhea, urgency, pain (B+M seems pretty much the same)? Or is it one of those "gets worse before it gets better" kind of things. I've only been on it for about a week (2 packets/day of the VSL#3 DS). I'm trying so hard to avoid the Imuran or Humira route which my GI is really pushing for. This was kind of my last ditch effort, so it stinks that I'm feeling worse.

I had a lot of gas and bloating that went away after I was on it for 2 weeks.

I started at 1/2 packet and had minor symptoms as you describe. Now at 1 packet with no problems.

I agree that you may have started with too much. With probiotics you want to start slowly and work your way up to a higher amount if you want to be taking a high amount. With that said, some people have trouble with certain probiotics and it causes an increase in symptoms and have to stop taking one they are on and try something else.

Exactly work your way up. Once you do, don't be afraid to do four packs a day (even of the DS). This, along with Rowasa is what got me out of my initial flare.

I, too, got really bloated when I started VSL#3. The other posters have nailed it-you took too much. The bloating will go away after a day or 2.
