Put on doxycycline for an infection. Asked my gi if this was okay and he told me it would be fine but to also take a probiotic with it and for 2 weeks after. Has anyone else been on this before? And how did it turn out?

Your GI said this was fine?? I guess if you take a probiotic it might work...but be warned. Any of the 'cillians and 'cyclines might cause C. Diff and/or make your Uc worse. My GI warned me to stay away from doxy like it was the plague.

Are you on a probiotic now? If not, I advise you start immediately and/or double the dose.

As far as I know, doxycycline isn't associated with tendon ruptures like Cipro is.

I think you'll be fine.

Interestingly enough some years back I was put on Doxy to treat a case of Lymes disease. The whole time I was on it my UC symptoms improved dramatically. I remember wanting to stay on because it gave me such relief but my doc wouldn't approve it. And understandably so. I was on it for about 2 months and once I finished it my symptoms returned.

Had to take it for 10 days due to an infection, had no issues. Was on pred/aza/lialda at the time.

Didn't use a probiotic.

I had to take it for a week or so last year. Was on 50 mg 6mp, a pred taper, and pentasa. I doubled my VSL DS the days I took it. I didn't notice any issues.

Thanks for the replys....I have been on a probiotic on and off since I've been diagnosed last year. I've been in a pretty good state with very minimal inflammation in the sigmoid for awhile now. Im on 100mg of 6mp currently but am always concerned about putting new things in my body especially with this disease.

Yes , definitely take a probiotics double dose BUT not a the same time as the doxy, take it 3-4 hours apart from the doxy dose.
