pain after rowasa

Does anyone get a dull pain in their rectum after using Rowasa. I am in remission but have been using Rowasa for maintenance. Last night I used it and I was fine but when I went to bed and laid down all of a sudden I had this major pain down there. After I administered and removed the rowasa, I kind of clenched instinctively on the insert so maybe that was it. The pain went away after 10 mins but it was pretty intense. I have it once in a blue moon so maybe I irritated a hemorrhoid too.

Could be hemmie or a fissure, or even gas pain or a spasm.

I get the extreme urge to go sometimes after the med's been administered, and very occasionally I've had rectal pain after the enema...but it was most certainly gas pressure.

Thanks for responding Quincy. I was thinking that too. Hey on average, when you are on maintenance, do you average about 2 enemas per week? Since there's 7 days, I would assume the night you use one changes each week.

I stick to every 3 nights. Sometimes I miss one by choice or I forget (even though I do have the schedule written on my calendar), so it ends up being twice that week I guess.

I taper to that dosage, I never have gone from nightly to every third night or twice a week.

I just do two nights a week (Sundays and Thursdays). The studies I read that showed that twice weekly was an effective maintenance dose and I personally don't want to mess around with an every-third-night type of schedule. It's easier for me to remember if it's always the same night. I don't stick to that exactly, though, and will move it around if I want to for some reason.

I sometimes get a crampy type pain afterwards, and it lasts just a couple of minutes, but the other night I got a pretty big stabbing pain right afterwards.  I think that it was some sort of spasm.

Fruitgirl, that's a good idea to just do it on those two nights.  I have been every other night, and in the past week every third night.  I may try your method of picking the same two nights.

Yes! stabbing pain, that describes it well. Thanks everyone for the support. I think ill do every sunday and thursday too.
