Can Colitis turn into Crohn's?

I always thought no. but an older friend with colitis just told me it's possible... can someone clear this up because if that's the case i'm pretty terrified...

I don't think one turns into the other but often times it is misdiagnosed causing your diagnosis to change.

Definitely doesn't "turn" into one from the other but misDX is quite common, especially with a colon that has inflammation. You're older friend is the confused one lol!

As everyone else has already said, it's a case of misdiagnosis, not some sort of disease transition.

Imagine having both Crohn's disease and UC, though. There must be people out there with both. Scary.

I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure you cannot have both. There is the dx of Crohn's Colitis where the Crohn's only presents itself in the colon. I think that dx gets people confused.

My GI said one or the other. Some with Crohn's colitis believe that the "colitis" part means UC. Common misunderstanding.

Definitely misdiagnosis or indeterminate IBD depending on the presentation I would think.
