Hi All,
I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis in 2011 after going months without consulting a doctor about the symptoms. Since diagnosis, I've had two bad flare-ups, one during my destination wedding 14 months ago and the last one this past month due to my housewarming. Both were triggered by stress involved in entertaining large groups of people...guess what's never happening again?
Anyway, this past flare-up was the first time I had a few drugs at my disposal and two days into the flare-up I thought I was already in remission...wrong! This past flare-up took about 22 days to beat and although I was making progress every week, some days it felt like it was getting worse. By day 14 I hit my max with 14 bloody bowel movements after which my symptoms gradually improved.
I've been doing well for the past two weeks, but am VERY cautious about what I eat and what I drink (not yet ready to have an alcoholic drink).
During my flare-up I would come to this forum to listen to what everyone was saying so that I could beat this flare. Just knowing that others are battling and succeeding every day helped me so much. Even though at the time I couldn't fathom having a few minutes to post without running to the bathroom I told myself I would take a moment when I felt better to write to everyone who participates in these forums. Thank you, you may not think it but your posts do help many people, myself included.
If there's a few things I can tell current suffers it would be the following:
1) Only you know your body as well as you do, chances are if you think something is working than its working. GI's have many patients and need scientific evidence, however, there may be a solution that may work simply because you are you.
2) Experiment with yourself - (see above) there may be a solution that works for you because you are you!
Here's my diet:
feel free to edit...
Asacol 2 times X 800 mg X Walter White
Thanks again you beautiful supporters
