You guys, what kind of doctor do I need? (Spoiler alert: Not for the squeamish)

I'm going to call my GI about this, too, but I'd like your input.

My rectum & anus are just sore sore sore from all the bowel movements. I don't think I have hemorrhoids, but maybe my expectations are wrong in what that would mean or look like. I always have a little swelling around my anus, and I feel like I can never get it really clean, which causes irritation, including stinging.

I NEVER strain on the toilet. Never never never. Even so, at the end of a bowel movement, I feel like I have to push back in some of my rectum that has rolled out while I was on the toilet.

I had a hemorrhoid once about a decade ago and saw a doctor to have it treated. I just looked him up and he's a colorectal surgeon. Should I see him, or is this a different thing? I feel like my GI addresses different issues. Am I wrong? I'm so confused.

I'd go see him for sure. If you have a bit of prolapse, it could just be a hemmie or remnants of one...or your anus is just so swollen that it seems as though it's a bit prolapsed.

I saw my GI about the "changes" around the anus after a somewhat bad fissure,external hemmie, and flare episode.
He took a look and said "well, consider all the use it gets for all these years"...OK, I get that. Using external med was helpful.

But, I do clean excessively with wet toilet paper and cetaphil then dry until it's good. That's before I hand shower..lol.

You might want to invest in a bidet...?

For sure call that surgeon, you might need a referral, but if you beg you might not..lol.

Do you feel like the skin is irritated? Barrier cream / diaper cream could help too

Quincy, I agree that it helps mentally -- I just hope that the problem doesn't start showing signs of being intermittent. It's such a hassle to see a doctor about a problem that comes & goes LOL

Pluot, I don't feel like the skin is irritated. This feels like sensitive tissue. Using the word "prolapse" which my brain couldn't find in its archives until Quincy mentioned it, I was able to find a few different things this could be, including mucosal prolapse. *sigh* I use a squatty potty in large part to avoid things like this.
