Is Uceris working for anyone? Asking for a friend

I have a good friend with mild/moderate UC who up until now has done very well with Asocol. I don't know much about Uceris but I mentioned it to him to ask his doc about. Just wondering if it helps anyone. Since it's still a steriod, is it used as a maintenance drug? I know it's low dose but still.....

if the person is doing well with Asacol then they should just stay on it. Asacol is one of the best maintenance medicines when it works.

Uceris isn't technically a maintenance drug, it's a steroid with a unique delivery system where only 10-20% is absorbed through the bloodstream. Results are mixed, I was put on it last week but have to give it more time to see if it will work.

I've been on Uceris for two weeks now. It stopped the moderate bleeding that I was having, but has not offered any relief as far as urgency and D go.

It worked great for him for years but now it's not working anymore.

I've been on it for the past 3 weeks. It stopped my bleeding and reduced my frequency a little. For me it's not like Prednisone, which makes all my symptoms disappear. I've had not side effects from the Uceris. I'm hoping it gets better over the next few weeks. I was in a minor flare (8 BM's loose BM's/day with some blood each day) and suffering from anemia which is why my gastro started me on Uceris.

I started taking Uceris and Cortifoam about 5 days ago, along with changing meds from Pentasa to Asicol HD. I was on Pentasa for five years prior. Its really hard to say what is helping or not, but I can say that I am feeling slightly better. The blood is calming down a bit, as well as some of the urgency. The only bad thing is that once I start to feel a little better, I tend to eat whatever I want. I also have been off of my coffee habit for many months, but have started drinking it since I was feeling a little better. I'm probably making things worse and extending the healing time. I do think that if I get my diet under control, that the Uceris will do the trick. My only concern is for how long. What happens after 8 weeks?

i started it last week right as I was beginning to flare. it's too early to tell if it's helping, and since I started Apriso a couple days ago, it will be hard to decipher what is working.

Josh, you mentioned that you started Uceris right at the beginning of your flare. That's what I need to work on so that I don't get too bad into a flare like I am now. Do you usually call the doctor right away when you notice a flare starting, or do you wait it out for a bit?

So... I took my first Uceris pill this morning. Color me skeptical. I take 4 lialda that are each horse pills and know that they alone aren't enough to cover the whole colon. The Uceris pill is like the size of aspirin... how exactly does it turn to a gel that coats the whole colon????

That's funny you mentioned that; I was thinking the same thing about the size of the Uceris in relation to how it is supposed to work. It just doesn't seem possible. I also wondered she same thing about my cortifoam; it's such a small amount and can't travel that far. That might explain why it is taking so long to do its job. I want results quickly.

OK...so I took my first Uceris pill yesterday AM. I'm not sure if this is possible, but I would say that I am feeling better today than i was yesterday?

Not sure if it is wishful thinking or unrelated... has anyone else noticed an improvement that quickly? I have heard some have seen dramatic improvement from Pred after a first dose (I did not) so I guess in theory it is possible.

Anyway... took my 2nd this AM. We'll see if this continues?

I was skeptical too when I fist started Uceris. Especially when I tried to go for a run and had pressing D issues. It took about 10-12 days before I became a believer. My issue was the cost. However, I loved how there are no side effects like Prednisone. My dr. put me on it for 8 weeks, my flair started immediately so she put me on another 8 more weeks.

I just quit taking it on my own 2 weeks ago because my BM's seemed normal and I wanted to see if the SCD (diet) I was trying was doing anything. Been med free for 2 weeks now with no BM issues. I think the Uceris definitely helped get me out of a flair without terrible swelling and other side effects like Pred.

When asacol stopped working for me, I had to start 6mp. I tried to take a course of prednisone and taper offw ith 5ASAs but it didn't work out too well.
