I've been taking it because of all its potential benefits.

The main one I'm shooting for is: hair growth, but that will take many, many months to assess.

I've also been giving it to my 15 year old dog who's got 2 huge bald spots on her, and since she's been on the DE, her hair is coming back in... so I'm hoping to see the same results for me, haha.

You're taking it for anti-parasitic reasons or other reasons?

I have it, used it a couple of times. It is rough in the GI tract for people with UC. I would not use it during a flare at all. It works better for pest control, to prevent fleas on cats and dogs, on the plants...
If you want to use something to get rid off parasites internally, better use a healing clay like Pascalite or Living clay. They are much more gentle, proven for internal use, tested for contaminants/bacteria and will not irritate your colon but actually soothe it and remove some candida and toxins too.

Bentonite clay is a very general term and usually is referred to Sodium Bentonite swelling clay. If you want to go this way, the only good Sodium Bentonite clay for internal use is Redmond Clay. It is sold in many health food stores, Amazon, on their site and on many other sites like www.iherb.com, www.vitacost.com, www.swansonvitamins.com....
I have not tried it, but a few days ago I ordered it because wanted to compare it to 5 other clays I have tried. Still waiting for it, so I can not say if I like it or not.
There is also Living clay, it is calcium bentonite swelling clay. Just type the name and you will find the site.
I have actually used it. It does help well for diarrhea. You need to be very careful and start at 1/3 teaspoon mixed in 10oz of water, mix it very well and let it hydrate first by leaving it for a few hours or overnight to swell. Drink this "clay mixture" in divided dose 1/3 of the glass 3 times per day for 3 days and see how you feel. If did not noticed desired result increase the dose to 1/2 teaspoon of the clay in 10oz of water, mix well let it swell for a few hours and drink it throughout the day....Increase the dose slowly, it is a strong clay. If you have a severe diarrhea you can take more clay for 2 days and then slow down to 1/3 teaspoons, just to get control over the BMs faster.
It is extremely important to drink a lot of water with any clay but especially with swelling clays or you will end up constipated and then when you will go, the stool will be very hard and scratch the colon walls.
That is why I am not a big fan of swelling clays for people with any IBD.
I like Pascalite clay. (www.pascalite.com is the only place that sells it). Another one to consider is Terramin clay. You can find a lot of information about this clay, including my posts, just do some research.
Also, a good clay is French Green Illite clay, which is marine clay, high in potassium. This one is a good pain relieving and soothing clay (Pascalite has pain-relieving properties too).
Which one you need and which is the best for you personally, I can not say. I do not know your symptoms.
I like to mix Pascalite clay with Activated Charcoal powder (made from coconut shells) they work very well together to calm the GI system and clean the garbage out of bacteria and candida.
Psyllium seed powder, I like to mix 1 teaspoon in a cup with warm water, let it swell a little a drink it slowly to coat my GI tract. I take about 2 teaspoons per day like this, 1 hour after breakfast and 2 hours after dinner close to my bedtime. For me taking psyllium this way is more effective than mix it in cold water and it take s less psyllium to get the same result to soothe the intestines and have more regular and better formed stool.
In my opinion probiotics, clay, activated charcoal and psyllium seed very fine powder work very well together.
In a way activated charcoal and clay work in a similar way, but clay is more healing and have ability to relieve pain too. By the way, charcoal works better and faster in a powder form. I bought mine at: http://www.buyactivatedcharcoal.com/.

Id stay away from clay.. and just do a standard wormwood,clove, etc cleanse. Why are you wanting to do the parasite one now? Just do the ole for a bit since it's helping but you had to back off. If you dont feel alot better in a couple months then look at the parasite cleanse. you dont wanna do too many things at once.

Also... in the link you posted, Q, it talks about the food grade variety and how this stuff is actually used in some foods/drinks.

I have never read anywhere about walnut shells charcoal.
