Got into remission after fillings were removed?

I would normally wait 6 months, but I felt I had to share this. I have been battling UC for 3 years. Never really got into remission unless I was on enemas and lialda combination and even then I would have to do the enemas daily to maintain it. If i stopped anything I would flare within 12 to 24 hours. If i had a drink with sugar it made it even worse. A coke would make my gut spiral out of control. I stopped all gluten over a year ago. That helped a little bit.

4 Months ago over 1 week all of a sudden I got better. I slowly started weening myself off the enemas and the 4 lialdas I was taking daily. It seems like a miracle. I kept asking my wife what could have possibly put me into remission? I was convinced it was something and I was determined to figure it out. My wife told me she switched all my food to organic except for the rice bread I eat, so I guess that could be it. Then I realized I also got all my silver mercury fillings removed about a month before I went into remission. I googled amalgum fillings and uc and the results are astonishing, seems like there has been speculation for years that the mercury in silver fillings can leech into your system after while and possibly cause all sorts of issues.

That's scary. Oh great now I'll be thinking that is what my UC is from. LOL

It would cost me about $4000 to have mine redone. If science proved it right now - on the front page - I'd go out and have it done! idea

OH! I forgot to mention that I have 2 giant ice teas loaded with sugar and chocolate chip cookies daily now.

I had all mine removed back in 2000 no effect on my UC.
Now my son who lost his colon,swears that removing fillings has helped his pouch function,
along with all organic food.
I suspect your wife by changing your food and perhaps in combination with the mercury removal made the difference.
I have not gone totally organic,but should.
Your wife is a smart lady.

I definitely thinks it's a legitimate issue - so far, based on what I've read, i'm not sure the risk is worth it -
maybe it's time for me to decide -

any thoughts ?

There has been a ton of info on mercury fillings and autoimmune diseases. So far I don't think anyone has ever nailed down any actual proof but maybe that is yet to come. Congratulations, and that's really rubbing it in - "OH! I forgot to mention that I have 2 giant ice teas loaded with sugar and chocolate chip cookies daily now". LOL

I had all my fillings redone with that white stuff (forgot the name of it), it has not helped my UC. However, I think my AI conditions are hereditary. But now it has me wondering...when they do a root canal with a crown, the post they use..is it mercury based?

Quick question - are the iced teas and cookies somehow organic? or made with all organic ingredients like cane sugar and umm well whatever would be in them? or are they just regular old Nestle iced tea type thing and off the grocery store shelf cookies?

Just curious if it;s food or fillings at the hart... probably both as Mike says.

I don't think the posts contain mercury. I had a ton of mercury fillings and I had the majority of them replaced with composite a few years ago. I want to get the last 2 replaced. I've been in remission regardless but maybe this has something to do with my UC - although I am sure there are people out there with perfect teeth (never had a filling) that have UC.

I've heard this about mercury fillings too, but I had mine replaced years ago and I'm still sick...I agree with NSSG--I'm sure there's plenty that have never had mercury fillings and still ended up with an IBD.

I drink Organic Tazo tea with cane sugar and my wife bakes me organic gluten free chocolate chip cookies that she gets them from whole foods.

For what it's worth, I have no fillings - I'm 27 and was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis when I was 10. My lack of fillings doesn't really mean anything in the scheme of things, but just wanted to say in response to others' comments that yes, there are people with no fillings but with ulcerative colitis! :p

I had my amalgam fillings replaced with gold inlays and composite BEFORE I was diagnosed with UC....

I've read about this before and I can believe that it is true for some people. I'm glad it put you in remission and hopefully a life long one.

I was diagnosed with UC before I got my first and so far only cavity. It's a composite filling.

If mercury fillings are so safe, why have almost all dentists changed to other materials? Also Norway, Denmark, and Sweden have banned the use of mercury in dental amalgam.

The more i search the net the more frightening it becomes and I had no clue about all this even when I had them removed. My dentist told me to remove them all so i just did it without even questioning him.

Just got back my Toxic Element Exposure Profile from a hair sample. Just as I suspected Mercury was at 90th percentile while all other metals were right around 50% percentile or lower.

Very important...
Not sure if it's clear to all dentist yet, never let anyone remove/drill your mercury fillings with out the proper
dam, equipment & knowledge that goes along w/ a safe removal.
I had all the balance of mine removed this way (correctly).
Prior to that I had one filling that gave me trouble & ended up stuck w/ an unsafe dentist in spandex pants.
I ended up w/ a very bad flare, probably due to all that mercury, metal & vapors blasting all over my mouth.
And the issue of other possible health concerns from the toxins. The two diff methods were quite the contrast.
The final removal did not give me fast improved UC but it certainly could have been one of the factors that helped me over the long run with the UC.
It was that very same trip to groton mass that an employee in a health food store turned me on to Echart Tolle "the power of now" That's another worthy of a post !

Glad you figured it out. Should you go in other flare (hope not) you have more work on your hands.

How old are you BTW, that you have amalgam fillings?

I will be 40 in January. I got most of them in my teens. I had very bad teeth.
