If I only had a penny for every person that came on here, went into remission, quit taking their meds because they were feeling better, and then had another flare. I hope you plan on continuing to take the Lialda after the Uceris is done. I know hindsight is 20/20 but you made a big mistake by quitting the Lialda when you were feeling better. You should have continued taking it at some dosage for the rest of your life, even if you were feeling perfect for decades. It's pretty much guaranteed that your flare will return and each and every flare usually gets harder and harder to treat, requiring either increased meds, or going up the med ladder to more and more dangerous drugs. I personally don't agree with your current treatment plan as I would have put you back on the Pred and Lialda, giving you orders to take the Lialda forever at some dosage after the Pred was tapered back. That's what worked the first time.
Gary, I've learned that this is more a failure of communication by the doctor. It's the doctors responsibility to communicate this to her. This is why it's so important to have the right GI treating this condition - it could mean the difference between heaven and hell.
The non-compliance rate is 50% because patients are simply not made aware of the risks of stopping the drug. Like most drugs out there, they stop it when feeling better. It's human nature for people to do this.
