Need j-pouch surgeon in ia

I am haveing hard time finding a surgeon in Iowa. I was hoping for Iowa city ia. But can't or I am not looking in the right place.

This summer I had a consultation about surgery with the university of Iowa hospital/clinic. Probably the best bet in Iowa. I met with Dr Elliot. Seemed like a very knowledgeable and understanding GI. He would not be the surgeon, but would manage the process.

Would you consider driving or flying to Mayo in MN? You're relatively close and they have one of the best centers in the country...

ya, I think iowa just has corn and hoosiers - or is that one of the other I states - I dunno ?


I would try to find the best you can get, as close as you can get, in that order - or does insurance dictate which state the doc is in ?

Not sure exactly where you are in IA, but I second trying Mayo in MN.  That's where my brother got his j-pouch around 19 years ago.  They have been doing the surgery longer than alot of places and have some top surgeons in the country.  I've never seen a surgeon there but I do see a GI there.
