Meghan O'Rourke is writing about her experience with an autoimmune disorder (she has Hashimoto's), and I feel like she has really nailed a lot of it. She has family members with UC, so mentions it in passing, but her experience with Hashimoto's is way more intense than mine has been, and so I felt like I was reading an article that in many ways could have been written by someone with UC. If that makes sense.
