Just saying, IM sure its not this way exactly but theres what looks to be an asacol tablet inside the delzicol capsules... What the heck? I thought they were doing away with the 'plastic' coating of the asacol and so went with some lesser evil on the delzicol, but it seems like a bait and switch... And has anyone dropped one in the sink and noticed the dye on those things...??? Apparently just to make them the same color as the older asacol...

Boy are you behind the times. This has been talked about
to death on this website. You can use the search function and keep yourself busy for the next week or two.

Its just a cheap trick to maintain their advantage once the patent runs out...

Geez where have I been? Guess I need to read the old threads... but if anyone knows for sure and can save me the time... can/should I just take the darn things out of the stupid, superfluous, outer shells?

The plastic coating stuff is a ruse to change the med to keep people hooked on buying the drug Delzicol while making it harder for a generic Asacol to be produced. Asacol HD still has this "plastic stuff" on it and so does the asacol pill inside the Delzicol capsule. The truth is many companies producing many different drugs use this very same "plastic coating" on their medicines. The FDA has recommended that manufacturers find an alternative to the coating since there was a little evidence that it did harm in rats. It has never harmed people whatsoever and the FDA does not demand manufacturers quit using this substance. It was just a very convenient excuse for the makers of Asacol to use in discontinuing regular Asacol and re-inventing it with Delzicol. If you take the capsule off and take the pill inside you will be taking a regular Asacol pill, plastic coating included.
