Been in remission since June of 2013. After a couple of rounds of prednisone I started on Remicade on 5/31/2013. Hopefully it will keep working. So far it's been my miracle drug as my stool went form a bloody clotty mess to fully formed within a week of starting it.

In remission, gained weight and strength.
RS diet is in conflict with lots of cheat food like cherry coke, coffee and muffins etc.
New GI doc thinks I am on apriso, have not taken one pill.
I also down p-seed powder capsules and if too much consumption of stims I down immodium, seems my entire situation is governed by transit time.

Lr21, okay. I believe my UC flare was brought about
by: job stress, working too many hours, not enough sleep, constantly exhausted, drinking alcohol too frequently (all these things related obviously). Those things can't CAUSE UC, of course, but they damaged/weakened my colon to the point where I was susceptible to whatever is the real cause.
Anyway, what I believe got me into remission isn't a formula that will be too helpful to others but it was:
1) quitting that hated wretched Job From Hell - in fact, I retired from working altogether.
2) rested, rested, rested. If I wasn't in bed, I was laying around on the sofa.
3) stopped alcohol altogether for several months.
4) diet went from (what I consider) healthy eating (lots of fruits & veggies) to crap: chips, chocolate milk, peanut butter toast, tuna casserole - comfort food, in other words. Flies against the experience of most others on this board, so again, not helpful. I was basically doing trial & error: learned to not eat what caused cramps and ate what felt okay. Didn't care anymore about
calories, nutrients, etc. Thought I was dying anyway!
5) at the time things started turning around and I started gradually going into remission, I was still undiagnosed, had not found this board so I knew nothing, and had not been on any meds or supplements.

Serenetynow, thanks for telling your story. Actually that makes a whole lot of sense. I have started eating healthy, which includes a lot of salads, fruits, and nuts. This combination may not be the best thing for someone who is in a flare. As others have mentioned, stress can have a huge impact on UC, so your comment about
your job makes sense. Luckily you didn't need medicines to get you into remission as most of us need. Hope you continue to feel good, and keep the UC away for a long time. Thanks again!

I think I can post on here too since I've been out of the woods for over 5 weeks now.
I owe it all to Fecal Transplant (home with spouse no DR's involved) and SCD.
This morning I drank 4 cups of coffee and had 1 BM about
an hour after waking. It was solid and that's it. I'm so thankful I did FT but only wish I had done it a year ago. Would have saved us thousands in meds and dr. visits. Am so glad this website gave us the direction and information on alternative healing methods.

I'm in remission. I go about
, who knows, 5-7 times a day, need to wear diapers and will go in my pants from time to time, but other than that.....remission.

Somedude, it's great to hear that you are in remission, but I was hoping that the whole "poop in the pants" thing disappeared during remission. Someone needs to find a cure FAST.

I'm on my first week of reaching remission without any RX medication (had taken them on/off since diagnosed in 2011). What's working for me right now is being extremely vigilant about
what I eat and have gone very strict Paleo less nightshades and eggs (for now, hope to reintroduce them after I have remission). I have gone so far as to make my own almond and coconut milk because even those bought at the store have extra ingedients, all produce I buy is organic, meat is grass fed. I'm doing daily yoga in the morning - full bikram series at home, I printed out the postures and used to do that back East in the studio - I think that has really helped heal me. After just a week I have seen significant improvements in how my body moves and feels again, like back before I was diagnosed. Also, taking a wide range of natural herbs and supplements, all listed in my signature. The Vitamineral Green and Inflama-GI both have a huge list of ingredients that covers a lot of the basics that many on this forum use (enzymes, vitamins, minerals, herbs) and I have a tall glass of water with those two powders in it each morning. Wish you the best of luck in finding a path that works for you!

I've been in a fairly secure remission with a few blips (short, mild flares that have been easily fixable with rectal meds) for...oh...4 or 5 years. I credit Azathioprine with keeping me there. I was taking pred to get into remission though.
When I do get sick, I find that the triggers might be seasonal or stress related. The two blips that I've had since taking Azathioprine have been the same time of year, two years apart.
I'm not on any special diet. What I eat is mostly affected by price and season (and of course personal taste) so it changes pretty often depending on sales/seasonal prices. The only things I really avoid are large amounts of fried food.
IMO the best thing one can do is just to be proactive-keep an eye on your symptoms, keep an
open line of communication with your doctor, learn to figure out when something is up.

I have no symptoms except for urgency when I do have to go. So I do not consider this remission.

Joylu, I had no real symptoms for almost 5 years, then the darn urgency started. I think that's the worse part; If it wasn't for that I could deal with the rest of the stuff. Good luck to you on getting rid of that quickly.

Nice 4 plus year rest with Remicade. Not all hunky-dorey tho, as multiple infections caused a few hospitalizations. But as you see, I am back...ready to seek a new witch's brew.
