I was dx 9 years ago with Ulcerative Colitis. 5 years ago I had one of my worst flares and after about a year, fell into remission for almost 4 years. For the last 2 1/2 months I have been battling another flare that I was using a Canasa in the AM and Rowasa in the evening. I starting feeling better and then my GI took me off of Canasa and I started Colozal. I can not swallow pills, so this is the best oral medication for me.
My flare got worse and my GI advised me to go on Prednisone and stop the Colozal. I was very hesitant about the Prednisone because of all the side effects that go with it, so I asked my GI if I could try the Hydrocortisone enema instead. He agreed and I started that about 2 weeks ago...taking the Rowasa in the morning and the Hydrocortisone in the evening. Which seemed to work wonders....I started to feel good again and even had normal BM's in the morning with no blood.
The last few days, I have not been able to keep the Rowasa in all day, maybe for about 2-3 hours and then its down hill from there. I am going to the bathroom 2-5 times a day with blood and loose stool.
I have always tolerated Rowasa really well and never had any issues. Was curious if this has happened to anyone else after a few weeks of taking both and if maybe I should go on the Prednisone, which I would have to take 6 tsps. a day since I cant swallow pills.
Or if I just need to give it more time!
