Hi, my name is Josh. I have been suffering from UC for about
2 years now. I was finally diagnosed 4 months ago after I told 5 different doctors that it was more serious than internal hems (frustrating!). Recently in the past few months, I have been feeling a lot better.
The main things I have done in my life that have changed my symptoms for the better are going on the Paleo diet and being gluten free. At first I started just gluten free and noticed a big change. I was still having lots of problems with urgency and blood, but it was much less. I finally went full Paleo, and wow did that put me in the right direction. After bleeding and running to the bathroom multiple times a day for 2 years, I was finally going just 3-4x's a day, no blood, and solid stool.
about
a month or two ago I went on vacation and made the mistake of drinking a good bit, terrible mistake. I went back to bleeding again. So, I started Lialda 2x's every morning and am also staying on my Paleo diet. I have to say I feel 10x's better than I used to. I have no noticed any side effects from Lialda. The first couple days I started taking it, the blood went away.
I used to be 5'10 195 muscular, now I have dropped down to 5'10 170, still muscular but more trimmed. I have always had a fast metabolism so it is hard for me to keep weight on.
If anyone is interested, below I've pretty much outlined my diet and lifestyle. I am in no way telling people that this is what they should do, I am just saying this is what I have done in my life, and I am feeling much better than I was before.
Major points of Paleo diet that helped me:
- No alcohol
- No caffeine
- No carbonated drinks
- No refined sugar
- No processed foods
- No dairy (except farm eggs)
What I eat
- Grass fed beef
- Pork
- Seafood
- Chicken
- Farm Eggs
- Lots of Veggies cooked really well (soft). Sometimes I even put them in the food processor. Soft veggies are really good.
I also get 8 hours of sleep every night, and work 4 days a week. I think exercise plays a big role in feeling well also.
If anyone would like to talk more to me about
this, just give me a holler. For the past 2 years I have been reading forums and realize how much help it is to talk to someone that has gone through the same thing. I am feeling much better than I used to so would like to help anyone if I can somehow.
Thanks and God bless! Happy Healing and keep the faith!
