I'm sorry that I'm making another thread. I've heard from different people that I'm annoying with this and I apologize in advance.

Yesterday and last Saturday I had bad abdominal pain. I can take pain due to Colitis. But his pain was weird. It was in the stomach area, at the height of my belly button, a little bit higher. It spread beltlike to the sides. When I laid down it got better. Both times it happened after I ate. The first time I was unable to speak it was so bad. I know this kind of pain from pancolitis but I know my colon is not inflamed. I also felt nauseous but that doesn't surprise me because I often have this due to Imuran.

I went to the ER yesterday but when the pain got better I left. Today I want to do some blood work and see if it will show anything.

I'm currently taking Imuran 150 mg and I'm trying with Rowasa enemas but I'm not very good in holding them in right now. I had mucus yesterday night which subsided during the day. In fact, I feel constipated and I cannot go anymore. Even releasing gas is hard but still possible.

Any ideas or experiences would be great.

Hi Andrina,
Could it maybe be gastritis? I am currently dealing with this and I have upper abdominal discomfort (above belly button) and some nausea. Just a thought.

How can I find out? My GI doesn't even have an ultrasound device.

i had similar pain and was diagnosed with h pylori, after 14 days of antibiotics the pain disappeared, it's just a hunch but may be worth to get tested

My Dr. diagnosed me by my symptoms. I just got a blood test for H pylori and it was negative. You can speak to your dr and maybe try an H2 blocker/PPI for a few weeks and see if it helps. My Dr. wants me to do Prilosec for a few weeks and see what happens.

Well I have to make a new appointment anyways but I felt way to depressed last time. I called them yesterday and they actually told me to go to the ER. I will call them again today.

My first thought was Pancreatitis and I would hate having that because it would mean that I have to give up the Imuran.

@delta - Have your colitis symptoms improved at all after treatment for h-pylori? Just curious.

My blood work came back normal. Not sure what it was. I'm afraid to eat because it may happen again. I hate it when the pain is so strong that you cannot even speak anymore.

This is likely not what you had, but your description really explained the same type of pain I had a couple of years ago. It was kidney stones. The pain radiated to my sides from the front, like yours and got better when I changed position (lying down).

Just a thought. I hope you are feeling better soon!

I'm inclined to think the person who suggested you may have gastritis may be right from the symptoms you described,as I had gastritis and also worried it might have been pancreatis my GI said I than with pancreatis it usually gets serious much quicker and the pain would be constant and unbearable,that's not to say that the gastritis was'nt painful but it was intermitant and it's worse I could'nt even keep any food down and would retch as soon as anything hit my stomach.
Fortunately there is treatment for this but for me it took a lot to get my system back in balance as neutralizing acid in the stomach is not ideal as you then get bacteria passing into the gut that would normally be destroyed in my case this caused me further problems and made my colitis worse.

Thank you for the responses guys.

A small update: I still feel uncomfortable, especially after eating. I finally reached the nurse and asked about the bloodwork. She said she rules out pancreatitis (what a relief) and there was no sign of inflammation. She suggested a bland food diet over the weekend and Zantac. She wants me to call back Monday morning to let me know how I feel.

I googled Zantac and it's against stomach acid. Not sure if I have this. I will try it out.

It's soo annoying.
