So had my colonoscopy this am and it was bad. I had fever and my pulse rate was high. They gave me Iv fluids and that got my pulse rate down. They proceeded with the scope and when I woke up my GI suggested I check into a hospital. I went to one downtown where my other GI has privileges. My "other"GI is considered an up and coming superstar(not my words but those of other Gi's at the hospital). I'm hoping she can get me some relief and save my colon. So I'm here waiting for my room

Not making much headway since they want a stool sample before proceeding . Was on liquid diet and did the prep for colonoscopy so nothing to sample. Finally got a sample for them this am but it is mostly blood. For the time being only thing I am on is a flagyl drip. No more asacol or pred. Glad to stop the asacol since not seems to do nothing.

Me too. I'd hate to have wasted all this time in the hospital.

a plan of action? He played all the cards:

Asacol HD 1600 mg 3x daily
Prednisone tapering down and am at 7.5 mg now
hydrocort suppository 2x per day
levothyroxine
Diovan(BP)
Mesalamine enemas 1 per day

Past drugs:
Remicade
Cipro
Flagyl
Vancomyicin
Asacol
Imuran(generic) failed due to liver issues with it
Uceris did nothing

He tried and tries all that and no good... If pred and remi do nothing...you're f'ed.

You should try Humira.

Weird, I could have sworn I posted... anyway, please tell your doctor or nurse that you should NOT be taken off of pred cold turkey, you are still tapering (at 7.5 mg per your signature?) and you need to taper slowly, ESPECIALLY when you are under 10 mg. If they want to switch you to IV steroids or up your dose again that's one thing, but they should not take you off of pred all at once.

Since you are in the hospital you could inquire about Cyclosporine. The stuff is nasty but it could help you especially if you are trying to avoid surgery. That drug bought me some time before inevitably having to have surgery. Good luck.

Im ok being off the pred. I trust the docs. I was down to 5mg for a few days. I'm frustrated because they are doing nothing now. Did a couple of rounds of flagyl and cipro but that's it. Just laying here waiting for stool results to come back and then it sounds like they will just do the usual Iv Pred. I drove across town to a hospital(not my usual hospital) and I feel in could have just stayed home and gave you them blood and stool and then went back on a high dose of pred. I was expecting something different. This is just the usual. I have yet to talk to anyone about what I am going to do long term

I trust doctors too but you have to be your own advocate in the hospital and double check what is being done to you. This is doubly true because most of the time we get admitted through the ER and they have very little experience with managing IBD, but it can happen anywhere in the hospital. It sounds like they're going to start you on IV steroids soon anyway so it won't matter, but you wouldn't taper pred cold turkey outside the hospital... you shouldn't let them tell you it's OK just because you're in the hospital.

the C diff and Salmonella have to be treated first.

I hope you turn a corner soon, but there is not much "new stuff" they can do. But, the evidence for FT curing C diff is pretty strong.

Finally got the all clear on salmonella. Decided to start oral pred 40 mg today and hopefully home tomorrow. If I started Iv pred I would be here 2 more days. I did tell them no more flagyl and cipro. I mean I don't any infection so no need. Still running fever 1 time per day but don't know why. Anyone else run fever when in a flare? So home tomorrow. Feel this was a wasted stay to just wind up boosting pred. So will go see my new GI next week to figure out long term plans. She is supposed to be cutting edge but we shall see

Man, I totally missed all this this! Sorry to hear Scum1.

It's good you've been cleared of infection but something needs to be done regarding your flare!

Hope this new GI can play the cards differently and get results! Hang in there and take care!

Finally back home from this wasted Hospital visit. I won't do it again unless I am in fear of dieing. The DRs at the hospital are just so clueless about UC ordering useless test and pumping you full of antibiotics. I could of just gave samples and waited at hope then boosted my pred. It would have saved me 500 bucks(have insurance but private room cost me 100 bucks a night) I am not sharing a room!
