So I *may* be coming out a this flare, definitely not there yet, but closer than Ive been in a long time. NOw everyone at work is getting sick and thats got me worried.

I havent had a flu shot in year and years, but Im wondering if I should, I hear its a "7 day flu"...

Has anyone had it (the shot) affect their UC in anyway??? Id be devastated if I got really sick and reflared.

I don't think anyone has ever had a flu shot make their UC worse. You could argue that you got the flu anyway and that made your UC worse. If you argued that the shot actually gave you the flu then you would be wrong because it is impossible for the shot to actually give you the flu. It is possible to come down with the flu around the same time as the shot because it takes a couple of weeks after the shot for it to become effective and you could have come down with the flu during this time period. Of course it's a whole other arguement altogether about the risks of getting the shot. These risks are very neglible but bad things can happen and many are dead set against them for that reason. For those that don't know medical science tries to predict which flu strains will be the most prevelant and make a vaccine for only those. Since there are literally hundreds of strains you could get the flu shot and if you catch a flu that was not one of the strains in the vaccine then you could come down with that flu.

I never saw any future in getting sicker from the shot than I do from the flu!

I got the Flu shot a few weeks ago, make sure you get the shot with inactive strain in it since we all have compromised immune systems.

The flu shot knocked me out for a couple of days, but it was still worth it because the flu can be very brutal for people with UC.

There's controversial debate about the flu shot. But I get one every year since I've been on 6mp and then Remicade. All I know is that I had the flu one year and I was literally laid out for 2 weeks. I vowed never to go thru that again because I thought I was dying...I felt like someone was taking a blowtorch to every single joint in my body 24/7 for TWO weeks. Since then, I get one every year. I've never had any bad side effect from it other then a sore arm for a day or two.

My GI required me to get the flu shot, pneumonia vaccine, and another vaccine I can't remember right now. He said since I'm on 6mp and Remicade it was important. I would call and ask your GI what he thinks. My GI did the vaccines in his office for me, he works at a hospital like facility.
I didn't notice any effects from the flu shot except for a sore arm and the pneumonia shot hurt waay worse.

I got the flu shot on Saturday. My first one ever. I was so sick with the flu last winter, I was actually looking forward to getting the shot. My main concern is I will get the flu despite the jab as the shots are not 100% effective.
