Are stand up paddleboards popular in your area? They are popular right now where I live and I want to take lessons.

sounds like a lot of work - how exactly do you stand and paddle ?

They look like a slightly oversized surfboard and you stand on it like a surfboard and maneuver through the water with a paddle that looks like a kayak paddle. I live near a small lake and I constantly pass over a little bridge driving or biking to go anywhere...so I see people stand up paddle boarding daily along with kayakers and small sailboats, etc. I also live an hour from the coast and the last time I was at the beach people were doing it on the waves. There's a company in my area that manufactures them which might be why our rec center offers lessons.

We had more pedal kayaks, but a few people have them. Probably a better choice than anything wind powered around here.

Very popular in my area. My buddy is starting his own company called Sol Paddle. Boards are due to arrive in a few days!

Yes, I've been seeing them at the beaches. I would love to do it but the water is very cold and I don't have time to go to the beach often - i am always working. I thought SUP meant supplement..

They are growing in our area. There is a water sports place (various types of kayaks) that also offers sup lessons.

I would think that an REI or other large sports chain might offer lessons.

Huge in my area -- Sac State has an aquatic center and they rent out boards, kayaks, sailboats -- all sorts of non-power watercraft and at a reasonable price. Not sure where you live, but they do offer lessons as well. I'd love to do it, but I can't kneel on the board to get me started, so I opt for the kayaking. Love it!!

think if I put one of them paddle things on my snowboard I could go faster and jump higher ?

I live in Daytona and actually am sitting on the balcony watching 2 of them at the moment! I thought ppl who couldn't surf had figured out an alternative use for their boards! Lol

Looks like they're enjoying it.
