Ulcerative Colitis & iberogast

I love Iberogast! I took it for IBS symptoms, not UC per se, but it works wonderfully!

I still have some, but it is so expensive here that I hate to use it. I've been taking GasX instead lately.

On the herbal side, I take Dida tablets to help with digestion which are made from oregano and cinnamon as well as omega 3 and evening primrose oil vitamins to help reduce inflammation and vitamin E (as J Scalla in a useful book called Eating right for the bad gut recommends this helps to reduce scarring from the condition). You can buy the book on Amazon.

I also take tumeric tablets which are a natural anti inflammatory.

When I have been very ill this summer, I took flax oil which did reduce the bleeding although you have to drink water afterwards and think of England or Scotland in your case. I think it did work though. It goes off quickly and you should keep it in the fridge and throw it out after a couple of weeks.

There was a thread some time back when a member recommended checking your vitamin D levels. I asked my doctor and despite the sun and some serious sunbathing on my part and a daily multivitamin with vitamin D, I was deficient this summer. There are some articles on the internet about IBD patients often having a vitamin D deficiency and one commented that the condition is usually easier to control with meds if the vitamin D deficiency is less severe. It could be worth investigating yours in case a vitamin D prescription would help. The hospital weren't interested in testing my D levels until I insisted. There was just one consultant who was very interested in this after the results who must be in better touch with the medical reviews.
