Have been taking CCHerbal for slightly over 1 month now. As with others who have taken it recently, it seemed to definitely help the first couple of weeks but then after that I seem to have gotten worse. I also just started up with prednisone taking 30mgs per day last week, 20 this week and 10 next week, then 10 every other day for about
a week after that. The first week on 30 mgs I was doing pretty terrific (best I've done in a long time) but ever since tapering down to 20 mgs I seem to be doing worse than before I was even on the pred. Totally unexpected results. My condition wasn't too bad before but just never could get into a complete remission, hence my attempt with the pred. Since I seem to be getting worse I have come to the conclusion that the CCHerbal either isn't doing anything anymore or has perhaps even made me worse.
I know some will chime in concerning rectal meds but at this point I'm not on board with that as prednisone is a systemic anti-inflammatory and should help with inflammation everywhere from the hairs on my head to the dirt in my toenails, which includes any area rectal meds would go. I do definitely see an arguement for using rectals to remain in remission after tapering off the pred but, since I wasn't doing badly to begin with, I don't understand why the pred alone is not good enough to replace any rectals at this point. Something just really seems weird with this round of pred. While on the 30mgs there was a very noticeable improvement but since tapering down to 20mgs it doesn't seem to be doing a darn thing and I am actually doing worse than before starting the pred. I mean I don't even experience any side effects. I actually sleep better, am not agitated or have a short fuse, no withdrawyl side effects whatsoever, and my heal pain has returned (plantar fascititis) which the prednisone is supposed to help. It's like the 20mgs isn't doing a darn thing to help or give me side effects, like I am just swallowing water with no pills. I really don't understand that.
A couple of GI visits ago he said that if I do not get better then we will do another scope and if it shows areas where rectals would help, then he would prescribe. He didn't seem to interested in going the rectal route without evidence that they would help. As some of you remember, he claimed back then that my UC was under control and that he believed my problems were due to IBS. My only problems have consistantly been frequency and urgency. I always have formed stools and no blood but the frequency of 8-15 formed stools per day is starting to take a toll on my butt hole.
