My GI put me on Imuran

I've started flaring again since school started and after visiting my GI today he put me back on prednisone and also put me on imuran. I've never been on it before. What should I expect? How bad are the side effects?

Imuran doesn't have annoying side effects like pred does. The biggest thing about Imuran is it will take a couple months to build up to therapeutic levels in your body, in the mean time your gi will keep you on pred. So be patient. You should also have regular blood work with the Imuran, so keep up with it. It is a necessary evil while on imuran.

Won't feel the Imuran for a while although the worst I've heard(and had) is nausea after taking it. Wasn't too bad for me but people have had worse. Get ready for the fun of pred again though :).

didn't work at all for me, had terrible nausea at first, which went away, and I was a lot more tired than I usually am..... I took it for a year, at the max dosage.....hope you have a better experience

Actually the first time I was on pred I didn't experience any side effects. I'm crossing my fingers that it'll be the same this time.
