Let's face it, out of all the diseases to have, we have one of the more gross ones and we have to deal with an inordinate amount of embarrassing situations. We can look at it two ways: wallow in sadness and feel sorry for ourselves or just suck it up, take the good with the bad just deal with it. I try to find humor in these unfortunate incidents that we have all dealt with this disease. Feel free to share yours....if you dare!
I'll start it off with two of mine:
Last week I was shopping at target with my 4 year old nephew and I ate a few bad things for lunch and was feeling the effects of it that night. Lots of gas and feelings of urgency. Well, as i walking through the toy aisles, I felt a giant fart coming that I knew I could no longer stifle and or hold. So, I discreetly distanced myself from the little guy so he wouldn't have to inhale this impending cloud of rank. I let it out and it apparently it set off some sort of motion/sound sensor toy!! My nephew's reaction was great: "Uncle farted so loud it woke up the toys!"
Another story of mine once again involved gas and my flatulence. I just ate a quick lunch because I was short for time at work because of a meeting. I find eating fast = fast acting gas and farts. Well, 5 minutes into the meeting, I felt that urge of "Oh, no here it, comes a fart or 6, man the torpedoes!" I started fidgeting in my chair trying to stifle to it no avail, this gas had only one exit in mind, my back door! Finally, I realized there was nothing I could do, so I did what any self respecting UC patient would do. I started talking loud and asking questions as I felt the fart coming out! I believe the sequence went like this: "I really feel that the warehouse is better suited for the software upgrade....*rippling, machine gun fart* next quarter. What do you think?" I never broke stride, I just acted as if I had no idea what was happening. By the time the meeting was over, I am sure people were wondering, "Did he just fart?" At this point, I could careless and went on with my day.
What situations have you been thrust in with this disease?
