I started flaring and called him to get some meds, and here it is friday night and he still hasn't called me back since wed. The nurse said she would get right on it…...

What meds were you taking while in remission and what meds are you wanting him to prescribe? Sorry he hasn't returned your call. That would really tick me off too.

I switched primary care doctor because of a really poorly run office. Never gave me results from skin biopsy he took after I called 3 times and it was squamous cancer (3 weeks later I got results). He should have called to give me results, not me call them. Dereliction of duty.

Get your Rx from this one and get a new GI.
There should be a way of leaving a message after hours for your doc, say it's urgent.
After you get a new GI you can leave a review of your previous doc on ratemds.com

I've been contemplating the same thing recently. My doctor is great but his staff is incompetent. They have messed up dosages of pred and gone 5-6 days without calling me back at times. One of my neighbors also goes to my GI. After not hearing back about starting Remicade he called for an update and the nurse said she called the pills into the pharmacy...lol...she thought Remicade was a capsule and could be picked up at a pharmacy.

My first GI examined me on my first visit, then never touched me again - even to shake hands - except when he was gloved for a colonoscopy. He also didn't seem to give a rat's behind that after a year on Colazal, Entocort and Imuran I was still in a horrendous flare. I fired him and found a new doc who had me on Remicade and in remission within two months.

I also let my PCP, who had recommended the first guy, know that he was a dud.

Is this commonplace or rare occurrence? He may be tied up with something. If its commonplace, you should have fired him a while ago.

My neurologist was great but his office staff was pathetic. I never got prescriptions properly. If I take meds 4X a day, I would get prescription for 3X a day. Something I need to take as and when necessary, I got Rx for one tablets twice daily.. They even overcharged me and now they do not have that record. Hence I fired him.
In my experience, its not the doctors but their staff is pathetic.

Lesson learned, always have additional stock. I have stocked up Prednisone, Bentyl, Hydrocortisone, Mesalamine enema and other daily meds I take.

I love my GI. I think God I was so lucky to be refereed to this man. He has awesome bed side manners. After being released from the hospital I had to stop by his office to pick up a script. I only needed to see his nurse. He came out in the waiting room, pulled up a chair and went over my discharge papers with me. Wrote me my scripts and told me you have my number if you need anything. On my first visit he gave me his cell number to text or call if I have any problems. :)

When I see that my doc doesn't refill my drugs I call several times a day. That annoys them so they get it done haha
