I need steroid suppositories/enemas and I don't have a drug plan, other than what ODSP helps pay under my mother's plan, under the Ontario Drug Benefit Program I believe.

I'm having constipation issues and want to nip it in the bud.. Cortifoam didn't help, period the last time I used it. I feel better with suppositories because my tush can't hold in anything. Unless the retention enemas are a lot better than I think they are.

WARNING: I'm having an eye surgery on the 26th, would it be wise for me to go on steroids?

I can't use 5asa's. And I really don't want anything to conflict with my healing. What can I do?? sad

I don't think there is anything to be honest - aside from applying for Trillium Drug Coverage for yourself. I was caught in a similar situation as I did not have an plans or coverage when I was first diagnosed. So all meds were out of pocket expenses. The anitbiotics and such really added up. Though you can get a tax credit at the end of the year if you list our expenses, but this rally doesn't help in the interim.

I looked at other plans from local benefits groups but once they found out I had Crohns-Colitis the price went way up..

So right now I stay with Trillium. At least in this way I just pay until I have reached my deductible, then there is no cost.

Your deductible is based on income - so if you're not working it's not to bad.

Wait was your question about Drug Coverage - or what meds you should take for constipation?

Drug coverage. I'm unemployed. And the money we get from disability couldn't pay for anything. It takes 2 months for us to save up for Naltrexone pills.

Can I apply to Trillium if I can't afford the prescription when I'm still on my mom's plan?

I think they have a 1-800 number you could call. You can apply anytime. But again you will still have to pay the deductible each time. So they can probably help you figure it out and estimate what it will cost you out of pocket. Maybe it will be less of a cost for you through Trillium. Worth looking into.

Not sure what else... It;s tough with these meds and deductibles and such. Adds up quick.

The best drug and dental coverage I've had recently was Green Shield thru my community college.


I was able to attend as a student with a disability at a 60% course load and opt into the health insurance. Even got $2 000 worth of fillings while I was at it.

Wow... that is a deal. Thanks for posting. I went back to out of pocket as I only have Imuran to pay for, but was considering adding a policy again soon. Mainly for dental. All reasonable policies seem to have very low year 1 & 2 dental maxing around $700-$1,000/year for the first two. It's borderline cheaper to go out of pocket as all quotes I have even for basic average are in the $110 t $120/mth range. Imuran plus the odd dental checkup visit is less out of pocket, barring and unforeseen major event.

I'll try Green Sheild.
