Research on food DNA in human blood - IBD patients have higher concentrations

Apologies if already posted. Just seen this research paper from July where food DNA in human blood was apparently found and IBD patients among the highest. Can't get all the science of it myself but may possibly go some way to explaining why some of us do experience that diet makes a difference despite being told by GIs that there is no evidence for diet triggers in UC?

Does this have anything to do with "leaky gut" syndrome?... Where food particles pass through inflamed colon cells into the bloodstream?

I could see this "leaky gut syndrome" being responsible for problems in other areas of the body since this gets circulated in the blood and can theoretically go anywhere. I often wonder if some of the damage in the colon caused by UC never really heals completely or if sometimes the treatment completely heals the colon and I'm not talking about a scope which shows no inflammation as there may be permanent damage with no inflammation, at least in some individuals.
