Medication Confusion

So...clearly the doctors office is not open today. I will be calling tomorrow.

At the hospital, I was told I was taking 6 generic Lialda a day. My GI confirmed this would be my new dosage. ok. Got released fairly late and just thought I'd go to pharmacy Friday....already have Lialda at home anyway.

Well, I'm looking at my prescription and it is for Asacol HD. Which I realize is just another mesalamine. I'm pretty sure I shouldn't be taking 6 Lialda today since the dosage in these two pills are different. I see the dosage for Lialda in a flare is 4...thinking I will do that, and go get the Asacol first thing tomorrow?

The is no generic Lialda, and they must use the phrase to mean other Melsalamine.

I would just take roughly the same grams per day, typically about 4 grams.

If you want to stick with Lailda, and your ins covers it, you might ask - since it is all the same stuff.

And there is no generic Asacol either. Sorry this is so confusing.

Go with what the insurance covers :D or whichever is cheaper. Or is less pills to take. :D

Im taking 9 pills a day (just one med) !!

I was going to ask about the 6 pills too... wonder why they called it generic Lialda. Strange! Maybe you're right to find a new GI ;)
