Started a Proctitis flare about 90 days ago. Had changed over from Asocol to Delzicol in May. Over the course of the last 90 days went from Mesalamine enamels to Hydrocortisone enemas. Seeing condition worsening somewhat. Went to doc today and they took me off enemas and switched me over to Asocol HD 800 mg x 3 daily. I'm being told they'll monitor for 2 weeks at which point they're suggesting a flex sig which scares the pants off me. Had one (awake) about 20 years ago and was the worst experience I've ever had. 2 years ago went through a flare and ended up on pred.

I'm curious if anyone has had success changing to Asocol HD in a flare?

I would ask to stay on the enemas and do the pills in addition.

Also you can ask if you may sleep during the scope.

Thanks - in general, would the hydrocortisone enemas be more beneficial or the Mesalamine enemas? I never did understand which one should be used and when

So, you've been on the enemas nightly for 3 months? How long on the mesalamine? and at what dosage?

I think asking your doc for a relaxant med would be beneficial for the sig-scope....and you could hopefully watch it on the monitor too.

Not sure what dosage of Mesalamine enemas I was on. It was an on again off again pattern for the first 60 days. Starting early December I did consistently for 2 weeks then switched to hydrocortisone enemas for 2 weeks. I am positive the flex sig I did years ago had no relaxant. It was "straight up" and not a pleasant experience.

Also, is it odd I would only be taking 3x800 mgs? Isn't the recommended dosage 4.8 G per day?
