I was thinking about
this too. We really like Quorn. (mycoprotein). We always had it about
once a month. I know some people react to it, but we never had trouble. Been avoiding it since this all started, but my DH came home with some of the cutlets he got on sale. I'm presuming these are a BAD idea? Does anybody eat it ok?
More interestingly, was anyone eating it before they came down with UC? I keep wondering....the Quorn....all the carageenan before I learned about
it...the last year of extreme stress and chap carbs/candy binging....I really did this to myself.
Rambling again. whew. Thoughts on quorn?

It's one of those things (like carrageenan) that should be banned for human consumption, but due to the FDA's incompetence it isn't. I suggest you do your research on it before eating it.

I had to look this one up: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quorn
I'm pretty sure I wouldn't eat the stuff!
"CSPI also claimed that Quorn could cause allergic reactions and should be removed from stores. Calling the product 'fungus food', CSPI claimed in 2003 that it 'sickens 4.5% of eaters'."

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quorn
made a live link.
Seems a no-brainer here....so no, don't eat it. Feel better?

yup, Quorn is nasty. It has been proven to cause illness in a fair amount of people, some serious. If I want fungus, I'll stick with mushrooms. I do like the Morningstar Farms junk food though, their veggie buffalo wings are SO good! I try not to eat them too often.....

That sucks. When we first started eating it there wasn't that much info out about
it...just some people had reactions. Didn't realize it was this terrible! So long Quorn!
It's funny....I was always the one perceived as eating healthy. I hate that you just can't trust what's sold at the grocery store to be safe.

Really...you trust everything in the grocery store?
I find that hard to believe since you're kind of fearful to eat in general...just saying.

Lol....no, I just hate that you can't. Just never looked in to the Quorn again after that first time. I'm just constantly suprised by what else I add to the list of things its been discovered are bad. Shouldn't be at this point. Should just start making everything myself...but it's nice to think there's a fall back convenience food treat sometimes. Ignorance was bliss I think in this case...my hesitation should have told me to look into it more myself, but y'know....sometimes you hope someone will say, nah, don't worry, it's great.

My best advice for what is actually healthy for you: simple, understandable ingrediants. Making your own meals from scratch is the best way to avoid all that filler crap and processed junk. They sneak un-pronouncables in everything these days!
When I was vegan I used to eat all the fake meats... they realized I was eating total garbage fake food! And went to just fresh foods and single ingrediants.
Unfortunately, I can't eat fruits or veggies right now... even cooked to death... so im pretty hungry :D

i think i had quorn once at thanksgiving at my aunt's house when i was vegan. her kids are vegan, too, and she made it for all of us. i think i had one slice. it was like a big oval roast with stuffing inside. it was okay but not something i ever plan on eating again. haha

I used to do the ToFurky turkeys for thanksgiving... mmmmm.

Quorn has carrageenan? Which products? I can't see it listed in any.
