My 8 year old daughter was doing fine with Pentasa 1.5 grams a day from Dec 17th to Jan 14th 2014. On 14th her full endoscopy and colonoscopy was done. She was absolutely fine on 15th and 16th Jan after her colonoscopy. On 17th and 18th, she had minor blood traces in her stools. 19th,20th and 21 she started to get heavy blood in her stools. Infact, today I was able to see just blood and no stools at all. I was very curious to find out what caused her flare. The following things changed last 2 weeks in her diet.
1>Vitamin D dosage level (Her Vitamin D had come very low). She had a reading of 11.So, I had increased her daily dosage of Vitamin D from Dec 10th to 15th to 5000 IU. From 16th Jan,I increased to 10,000 IU.
2>On Jan 15th, I started to give her Bovine Colostrum.
3>We always used to have turmeric in our diet. But, we had increased turmeric dosage last few weeks.
4> I had read about
Pentasa hair loss. I saw my daughter was losing more hair than normal. I had reduced Pentasa dosage to 1 gram a day about
10 days before. Doctor's dosage was 1.5 grams a day. I was thinking I can supplement with my supplements.
5> 4 days before her colonoscopy she was asked to take Miralax twice a day and also be on liquid diet last day.
What caused her flare? Was it colonoscopy or any of the above. Does sudden Vitamin D increase cause this kind of flare?
