Hi.
As part of my normal flare pattern, I pass a lot of cloudy yellow liquid mixed with blood. I also pass the more gel-like mucousy bloody gunk too.

I am currently having such flare symptoms, the only difference is that now when I pass the yellow/bloody liquid from my anus and then wipe in the vaginal area, there is a small amount of yellowish bloody liquid on the paper.

For several weeks now I have been assuming I am spotting, but it finally dawned on me that I have the discharge only happens when I have a bm.

Has this ever happened to anyone else? Maybe its some weird splash back thing, or spotting from pushing during a bm? It couldn't be a (I can barely bring myself to type it) fistula, could it?

Hi jane,
I can't comment about a fistula...what were your symptoms of fistula last time? I can say that I sometimes wipe in the vaginal area and have some mucous, but is never felt it was related to the ibd. I thing the vaginal area creates its own mucous and depending on your time of the cycle you will have more or less. Just my 2 cents.

My first thought was backsplash. But, .... ok here goes, can you somehow use your finger with toilet paper on it and get into your vagina opening, just enough to see if thats where it is coming from???? When I was first diagnosed, I had been having female problems and I was shocked when I figured out I was bleeding from my anus! I guess you would be trying to figure out the opposite. Yellow from vagina would indicate infection maybe? I don't know, feel like I'm thinking out loud thru the keyboard here ... good luck!
Don't know about fistulas, but I will be following this post to learn.

B: Thanks for responding. You're right about the mucus and for me as an older woman, everything relating that area is starting to go out of whack. One minute my ovaries are too tired to bother and the next they're as frisky as they were 20 years ago!

Coffeecake, checking farther in is a good idea. I practiced natural family planning back in the day which required alot of cervical checking so I wouldn't be too squeamish about that. The thing that confuses me, is that I only have the yellow bloodish discharge during the times I am on the toilet for a bm/mucus event.

Ok, this is really tmi, so be warned all....

To check if it was back splash this morning, I held some folded tp over my front area while passing mostly gas/mucus stuff to see if the force of the gas was spraying it forward, but the tp came away clean.

Whew. That's embarrassing!

Could it be friable cervix? I had that for a while. When I stopped taking birth control pills with estrogen it went away. Now I take a minipill. Mine wasn't mucousy looking though, it would just be a bit of spotting as far as I can remember and only after BMs or pushing. It freaked me out for a while and I went to the extent of getting an ultrasound to find out what was going on but there was nothing to be seen.

Actually a friable cervix makes sense, especially if it is reacting to the muscle contraction from a bm. I had hematometra which is trapped blood in uterus due to closed cervix (complication from a past endometrial ablation). In October, I had to have my cervix forced open which I suppose could make more susceptible to these kinds of things.

Thanks for replying. I am usually very unworried about this kind of stuff, but the thought of another fistula makes me jumpy!
