OT - Unfriended

He will Momma...it's just the age. He's trying to define himself. It's a rite of passage. We've all been there. It just seems harder as a parent. Btw, if it makes you feel any better, I also have a 22 year old son...he froze me out at 14! Lol

Yeah, I know Facebook is a stupid reason for drama. That doesn't mean it doesn't sting though.

I can eat dinner with him, but I really don't want to. He's not enjoyable to be around.

Although I would blame his age too, the second line in your post above REALLY bothered me. What were your relations with him before this all started?
Frankly, I wasn't much different during that period.

I have a 21 year old stepdaughter who has many of the same symptoms described in this thread, although she's not quite that bad. She's going to college and living at home (well her mail get's delivered here anyway). She and her mother had been very close over the years and my wife had these fantasies of the perfect mother - daughter relationship going on forever. Those fantasies ended a few years ago and we have apparently turned into afterthoughts in her life. She tries to fit us into her busy schedule - which is almost never and, as I said before, she has many of the same symptoms described in this thread. I think she lives the life of a teenager and we are just the old fuddy duddy parents who she has almost nothing in common with. I have been telling my wife for years that she's just going through a stage but every year another year gets added on. Every time we think we see the end of the rainbow it disappears and reappears further out in the distance.

OK here's a thought, you mention a stepdad, so you've divorced your sons father?
Perhaps he has some of the traits your ex had that made you incompatible. (this would not apply if your 1st husband died of course).

I had a very stormy adolescence and was not a bad kid (no drugs good grades). But my mother disliked my attitude so much she threw me out, to my father and Cruella stepmothers home 20 miles away and very far from friends and school.

I disliked (hated) my mother for years but sent her money when she really needed it many years later. Sometimes people just don't get along and it hurts when they are related.

Of course your son may love you a lot and is going through growing up and will re-appear as a fantastic son in a year or 2. Or he may stay the way he is now. Live your life, be a good parent to get him alive through age 18 or 21. Life is what it is.
