Have to pee a lot at night??

I'm currently tapering off of prednisone(20mg). And since I have started taking it, I have noticed that while I drink a lot of water during the day, I never have to pee during the day. Then after laying in bed for a while at night, I have to go. And then I have to get up like four more times during the night to pee. Is this a result of the prednisone or just another odd symptom of colitis? Also, do you guys have any idea on how to get over this? I hate having to get up multiple times in the night, I hardly get any sleep!

Try getting tested for bladder infection, I did and didn't know I had one!

Have your UC symptoms improved from the Pred dosing? If so, your colon may be absorbing more fluid than usual, which is heading for your bladder. That has happened to me from mesalamine, when it seemed like my colon was finally recovering from a UC flare thanks to the med. Being able to then eat a more normal diet apparently got my bladder function back to normal balance. Apart from possible urinary tract infection, the bladder can also become overactive due to caffeine intake or acidic foods/drinks. Salt increase while on Pred would likely lead to higher fluid retention; in case you've been purposely limiting salt to avoid the dreaded Pred "moonface" side effect that could cause more frequent urination. Also, if you are using rectal meds in addition to Pred that could result in even more fluid being absorbed from colon to bladder. The body's elimination functions get out of balance during a flare and then may need some time to readjust to and from the Rx med(s) so that's likely what's bothering you if your colon is now behaving better. / Old Hat (33 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)
