Chicago- Northwestern Hospital GI doctor needed

U of C is the gastro palace. Dr. Rubin or Dr Cohen are both great.
A coup of sorts recently happened, and the esteemed Steven Hanaur is setting up shop at northwestern presumably to shine his light on and build up the GI teams. if he is seeing new patients, you would be in great hands.

The best GI guy in the world is the chairman of gastroenterology at Rush University in Chicago.

He finds the time to see you if it's urgent, and he responds very quickly to emails.

He is also running an NIH funded study on stress and UC.

I found him by searching GI and Chicago on healing well, BTW.

I live near the Northwestern University campus and found a great GI whose office is near Old Orchard Mall in Skokie. It's a 10 minute drive/cab ride from Evanston. He does procedures at Evanston Hospital which is even more convenient. I highly recommend him-good listener, good communicator, calls back when you call him, and his nurses are fabulous.

I caution your daughter to reconsider looking for a GI at Northwestern. In my experience, they have way too many patients, book too many per day, and patients usually end up waiting for 45 minutes to an hour. They're just too busy.

Once I started seeing doctors in Evanston, I felt like the service and the attention I got was much better. One caveat: my UC is relatively mild and uncomplicated so I'm fine with a doctor who is not at a major teaching hospital (although Northshore Medical System is part of the University of Chicago teaching hospital system). If my condition gets worse and I consider surgery, I will definitely go to Northwestern orUniversity of Chicago.

The doctor i went to is at rush hospital, Dr. Swanson. He's a bit on the young side, but i got his full attention and had no wait time what so ever. I was stunned that this occurred, as every other doctor i've ever been to, i've waited a long time to see and didn't get the feeling the doctor cared.

I'm so curious: the doctor your daughter had at NorthShore, the one she wasn't comfortable with: were the initials of the doctor EY? That was my GI and I was very disappointed, and angry, with the care I got.

Argh! I knew it was the same doctor! What a jerk. He and his nurses screwed up the timing of my first three Remicade infusions. He's also part of the reason why I ended up in the hospital because he told me my vomiting was due to slow motility, not the flare. Since it was my first serious flare, I believed him and didn't get medication in time to keep me out of the hospital.

I hope your daughter finds a doctor she likes and trusts. It makes such a big difference.

Thank you rocksinger 29. I saw online that Dr. Yun from NW only accepts patients that are referred by another dr? Did another dr refer you to her?

Think the word was "chilly", but I will inquire further tomorrow with the other mom. Her D is also a college aged, complicated Crohns patient and she opted to stay at U of C. Student downtown too. We have had 3 university doctors ( ped's, college, home) and used them all a lot (10 hospitalizations). My D graduates next week, will be home for 2 weeks and then off again , #4 @ Georgetown coming up. Flare hasn't stopped. Anyway, I can't vouch for the new practice, his former nurse stayed. Maybe it is super efficient now that he is there. He is highly regarded, so might be worth it for drug trials o rcomplicated treatments. Katmom, thank you for your replies. My daughter is so sick of drs giving up on her or getting annoyed with her difficult history.....well excuse me. She is looking forward to seeing Hanauer, she needs someone to help her.
