Montelukast Sodium (Singulair) side effects

Well, this past week a doctor diagnosed me with adult onset Asthma which I probably have had for at least 15 years. Intense exercise, cold outdoor air, and strong odors make it difficult for me to breath in. I have been doing some high intensity exercise lately and getting to the point where I was afraid I would no longer be able to breath so I contacted my doctor.

Anyway, I started montelukast sodium four nights ago and and this morning it is as if someone shoved a knife up you know where based on my bloody stool. There is also some left side abdominal discomfort.

I also had a dream two nights ago where I used a cue call to beat someone senseless in a pool parlor and I typically never have dreams at least ones that I can remember. I also noticed my anxiety level increased dramatically two nights ago as well.

So I guess I'm back into another two month healing cycle. Arg!

I guess I will exercise less intensely for the time being or possibly not at all while my colon heals.

I quickly became inexplicably depressed (very very low) when I took Singulair / Montekulast. I came off it after a few days and felt normal again.

Merck is a pretty shady company in general and singulair is one drug where the warning of neuropsychiatric events was updated in 2009. It is unsurprising that it induced a nightmare of you beating someone to death. Personally, I'd never ever put any kid on it, but it's widely prescribed now due to the increasing allergy/asthma epidemic.

Have you switched from inhaled steroids to Singulair (Montekulast) or have you been put straight onto Singulair following diagnosis a few days ago?

Do you have a ventolin (salbutamol) inhaler that you can take half an hour before exercise?

Have you come off any steroids in the past few days? I feel very hungry, crave sugar, find it hard to get up in the morning, feel tired but wired in evening after coming off steroid tablets. High dose inhaled steroids can cause side effects.

Please report adverse side effects to the FDA. The behavioral health issues were added to the label in 2009,but are considered incidental which means that the possibilities are 1 in 1 million or 100,000 of having them.

I believe the side effects are under reported - extremely. I am encouraging you to report adverse effects to minimize the chances of Montelukast Sodium from becoming an OTC. It is very helpful for many people, but for those who have had reactions, it could be catastrophic.

I was on Singulair (allergies) for years and never noticed any sort of side effect. However, my son was on it for cough variant asthma and it caused him to sleep walk in addition to insomnia and dizziness.
