I think everyone responds differently. When I was on HD it worked better for me to take 2 pills, three times per day. Doctors tend to worry about patient med compliance so they usually suggest taking dosages as few times per day as possible, mostly for that reason. However, I think some people respond better to having 3 pills in their system all at once instead of two. You really just have to see what works best for you.
It always sucks to have to take antibiotics because they can really mess you up, even if you are taking precautions. You weren't taking the probiotics too close to the antibiotics, were you? Next time I would go up to the full dose of 6 HD pills per day while on antibiotics, plus the probiotic increase. Even then, there are no guarantees. The first time I took antis it messed me up but the couple of times after that when I took precautions, no problems. I recently had a UTI myself and the doc suggested two or three possible antibiotic choices and I shot them all down and he prescribed one farther down the list. Good decision on my part. I think the type of antibiotic has a lot to do with it. The broader spectrum ones kill the most good and bad bacteria, which is actually usually bad for UC.
