Genetic clue to irritable bowel syndrome found

I paid so much attention to the many genetic links to IBD, that I had not stopped to think about whether there were genetic links to IBS. Interesting, even if it is only a few percent of IBS that have this gene problem.

The general idea is similar to IBD drug development. Identify some genes, learn how they work or what they do, and then develop a medication that counters the problem.

Most of the genetic links for IBD have been in the immune system's inflammatory pathways, and that is where things like biologics and stem cells are targeting. A few are targeting leaky gut based on other genetic clues.

This is the kind of research that is going on all the time. It is just frustrating that research is slow and flares are fast.
