Doing a lot of thinking in the run up to my colonoscopy, whenever that will be. Waiting for the letter to come.

If you were getting bleeding from your ascending colon what colour would it be. Would it be mixed in with the poo or just coating it. what about the transverse and descending. How does the colour change the nearer it gets to the rectum.

I may be analysing things to much for my own good but you know what its like when you are searching for answers. My sigmoidoscopy two weeks ago showed no inflammation in the rectum, sigmoid and descending colon but I am still seeing blood.

Blood is bright red when it comes from close to the sphincter (as in hemorrhoids) and the rectum. Blood from the rest of the intestine transitions between various tints of red, getting darker as you go further up. Blood from the small intestine is a dark wine color. Blood from the stomach comes out black.

My blood is not bright red that you would see on the paper. I think you would call that fresh blood. I would say it is a bit darker than that. Not dark wine colour and definitely not black.
If I catch the bm on the loo roll (I am sure we all do this) it looks daker on the poo than it does when there is a bit on the paper.

I know this sounds gross but I am beginning to wonder whether this is not proctitis.

Hard to know for certain based on the color of blood you see. Uc does have a tendency to spread. Could have reached the sigmoid colon and have proctosigmoiditis, like me. Then again it could be nothing. No way of knowing without a flex-sig scope.

If your sigmoidoscopy showed no inflammation anywhere that was scoped, I would suspect hemorrhoids.

It could be darker, maroonish, not blackand clotty. It could be darker red but maybe not as clotty if you are one of those people that eats and then is triggered to poop quickly after. Reading poop is way worse then reading tea leaves or palms.
