Do enemas still soak in if you have the big D?

I've had a bit of stress the past day and my body seems to be revolting by completely cleansing itself with diarrhea from anything I eat. I was just fine a day or two ago so it's clearly the unexpected big stress I had. I had the stomach flu over New Year's and that didn't make me flare so hoping this won't either. So far just a little lower left side pain and of course my bottom is sore from all the BMs, and I'm tired just from going so much. But drinking plenty of water to stay hydrated.

My question is, I'm taking my Mesalamine enema twice a day till this blows over. I am able to hold it in all night then during the day I can make it about 5 hours before running to the bathroom. Is it actually soaking in if my colon is in overdrive, even though I'm able to keep from having a BM for quite some time after I take it? My BMs are all liquid and yellow, just like after you do a colonoscopy prep. So I know I'm dehydrated a bit too.

Yes, enemas will still be absorbed even when you have diarrhea. Your large intestine is designed to absorb liquids and it will continue to do that regardless of how inflamed it is. Just is not as effective when inflammed. So it might take longer to absorb all of the liquid.

As Katie said, you are already absorbing it if you go all night or 5 hours. We often get posts where people can't hold the enema for more than 1/2 an hour. And even in that short of a time frame it doing some good.

Retaining them for any amount of time is something...try a little at a time, even if its dribbles...I once took a half hour to administer one. Actually, inflamed tissues are so raw and full of vasculature it is absorbing it, even if it's not for 12 hours....it's getting in there and will gradually get better.

Anything is something....little steps.
