Interesting. I wonder if this has anything to do with my American Gut analysis which showed I had like 98% Firmicutes and close to zero Bacteriodetes, which should have been around 40%. This might be a very interesting path of treatment - working on increasing the body's anti-inflammatory response instead of working on decreasing the inflammatory response.

I think I have some info on that in an old thread but so old I cant remember the name of it.
A possible additional route to this might be mushrooms, and other polysaccharides, glycans.

Up pops Bacteroides fragilis again... Much like E-coli, Clostridium and a few of the others there's both good and bad strains of all these - or possibly all bad if the mucus barrier is missing.
In all the mucus papers fragillis is the most common on UC biofilm.
Enough to drive one mad though - thinking about
all of it!
EDIT: Really glad to hear you're still doing well Gary... Keep at it!

Was getting worse for several days in a row there at about
the same time I decided to quit taking generic levsin. I was surprised because I really didn't think it did anything for me. I stopped it once before and got worse and then ordered some more. This time I panicked and reordered but decided to hold off taking it. I think I discovered why I was getting worse and it wasn't due to the discontinuation of that med. My wife had experimented and made a new dinner food which we ate on for several days. I figured it was higher in histamines so took a little bit more DAO than usual but that's when I started getting worse. The other day I had some more (it's good!) and I decided to take a whole lot of DAO and poof - I'm better again. Two days in a row now I have had extremely terrific days. I think a combination of things are helping me but I truly believe that the grape seed extract has done me more good than absolutely everything else I have ever taken over these almost 4 years.

Don't know if you're interested or not OM but here is the same authors earlier paper on B. fragilis PSA.

garylouisville can you take supplements of Bacteriodetes? Did you try that if the tests show low?

Tried searching for supplements of Bacteriodetes but couldn't find any.
