Just curious. What is your morning routine like before you feel comfortable enough to venture out and away from the security of your home toilet?
For me, I have to get up at least an hour and a half early. I hit the toilet immediately, take a shower, go again. I will then usually get some breakfast, go back to the toilet. By this time I'm usually pretty tired of all of the bathroom breaks and feel somewhat comfortable that I can leave the house. At times I will get in the car and have to come right back in to visit my favorite place again. This really sucks but at least I usually make it back into the house without any accidents. Ok, now I get back in the car and usually stress on the way to work. I may visit the bathroom again when I get to work, then I can finally feel comfortable enough to actually work. We'll, that is if I don't have to run back to the bathroom again. Wow, mornings are so much fun! Does this sound familiar?

Yeah, it sounds familiar alright. I have the same sort of routine . Wake up at 6:30a, hit the toilet, eat breakfast, hit the toilet again right afterwards. Watch the news for a bit. Hit the toilet right before I leave at 8:00a. I maybe go 2-3 times in the early am but often not sure when/if I gotta go. So, I'll end up sitting on the toilet more times then would otherwise be needed. Sometimes, I have to stop at the Dunkin Donuts about
1/4 mile down the road to poop. Usually, I am good once I get to work. Don't have to poop again until the next morning.

@iPoop I beleive you are in remmission right? As far as I know you got off prednisone and started Remicade. So my question is " Is this your routine when you were flaring or when you are in remmission?"
I am on 6mp and got off prednisone in March 14. I have 1 BM in morning some time loose and sometimes formed. and on/off blood. My GI doe not think it as remmission and might have to go on Remicade so trying to see how Remicade is working with all of you.

Mornings are hard. I am not working right now, but when I was I woke up two hours early. I would go to the bathroom, brush my teeth and then eat breakfast. Brushing my teeth and eating breakfast right away got things moving earlier. Then I would have to go the first time in about
30-45 min. and then several times after that. I sometimes wouldn't make it through my shower without having to jump out and sit on the toilet. I have become a big fan of dry shampoo (for those mornings when I need that extra time for pooping instead of washing my hair, haha)! Then I would take a few deep breaths and decide to head to work. It was the most stressful part of the day, but I would take the route to work that I knew had two places I could stop on the way to use the restroom.

I am on My 5th infusion of Remicade and this seems like the best it's going to get. I think Ipoop has a few more infusions than I do. I am curious if this is the normal in remission for Ipoop as we'll? Without this morning routine, it would be rough making it to the bathroom during the day without accidents.
Colitis32, I can say that the need to jump out of the showers mid way has slowed drastically. Every once In A while that still happens. Got tired of the drenched bath mats from all of the dripping water.

I wish! I could stay up all night and still not get a routine to leave my house down pat...my IBD rules me, I don't rule it, I've tried to "trick" it many times, but it's pretty wise and figures things out quickly, no matter what, I'm darned if I do and darned if I don't.

PamSmith and LrR21, 2 years and counting with uc and no remission lol. I've had the same routine whether in a flare or in a quazi-remission-simmering kinda state. I think part of my morning routine at this point is habit. Some of it is precaution, I've been doing this so long I kind of do it this way. I often have to force it out now, where as before it rushed out on its own and my presence on the toilet was optional haha.
I've been on Remicade since Sept 2013, it's made a huge improvement (all solid bms, no blood or mucus, and urgency mostly gone), and yeah I'm finally off of the pred. I haven't had a scope in a while but we'll see what my GI says when he does one next.

Turtlepower, you caught me. I kind of figured that this might be slightly normal behavior for us all. And this has been the same routine for so long.... At least I have my kindle to keep me occupied when I sit around so much.

when i'm in remission, i usually poop in the morning sometime. it could be once around 9-10 and then if i drink a lot and then exercise, i might have a second poop after but only if i'm lucky. i then go about
my morning/day and hope i can poop at night but it usually only happens once a week. i rarely have more than 2 poops a day. i prefer to poop before i leave the house but it doesn't always happen. when i have to be at work at 7:45, i usually wake up at 7:30 and leave at 7:40 without pooping. i can usually poop when i get home around 11 or 12. luckily, i can hold it if i have to but i prefer to go when i can because i've had to go to the hospital for constipation and then have to drink laxatives.
when flaring, all bets are off and i go whenever my body MAKES me go.

Right now my body likes to poop only when I'm out of the house
when I was on the all diarrhea all the time channel it was usually three goes at the can before I could make the short drive to work.

Hi bananagirl,
I get severe constipation sometimes too. What happens when you go to the hospital for help? Does anything help? What makes you decide to go to the hospital--is it the number of days without a BM, or is it the pain/discomfort? I hope you don't mind my asking.

Sounds very familiar! I also have a set of gas stations, coffee shops & fast food restaurants that I alternate between on my drive to work. Normal, right?

colitis32, when i go, it's because i think my colon has perforated!! i called an ambulance once because the pain was so bad and i was crawling on the floor. they did an abdominal xray and told me i had pounds of stool in my terminal ileum/colon area. that is where most of my inflammation is. they just gave me a colonoscopy prep to drink to get things moving again and then sent me home. i didn't have a colonoscopy but they wanted to make sure i pooped.
i had been going 1x per day to 1x every two days at the time. now, i ALWAYS try to force myself to have 2 poops a day, but three would be preferred. i usually drink a lot of hot liquids or do belly massages to avoid getting backed up again.

bananagirl,
That's terrible! I hope you are ok now. My stomach has been pretty bloated over the last few months, and for about
a week every month I have a lot of trouble with constipation, but on day 5 my body seems to correct it. It just makes me really anxious and uncomfortable, that is too long to go without a decent BM. I have been drinking lots of hot beverages too and was thinking about
picking up a magnesium supplement. Thank you for writing a reply, I appreciate it.
