Did not get into SSI trial-question on my results

As expected, since I've gotten extremely better from when I first saw blood on December 10th, I did not qualify for the SSI vaccine trial in Vancouver. I took my blood test two Mondays ago, 4.7.14.

I've never researched fecal calprotection much, but a Crohn's wiki shows 0-50 is normal. Not sure what they mean by 'normal', so anyway my value was 35.8. Does anyone have more experience than me to shed light on that number?

I'm very perplexed though as I'm doing what I've always done at the end of a flare...have blood, go 10-15 times without, then see it again, repeat this three or so times and then be good until I flare again.

I had my last blood March 23rd, good blood test taken 4.7.14...but I saw a patch of blood this past Friday, 4.18. I thought I was home free but apparently not.

Either way, 35.8 sounds pretty good and I'm happy with that, unless someone with more knowledge says that's not that great... I'm sad I'm not getting to try the SSI vaccine and spend three weeks in Vancouver though.

"Tibble et al. used FCP values to predict relapses as well as to determine the necessity for IBD screening and response to treatment. They indicated that IBD patients in clinical remission with FCP values greater than 50 mg/L (in both the UC and CD groups) show clinical relapses within a few months with a sensitivity >80%.15"

OK so there's really no clear cut correlation as in <X fecal cal means remission because it looks like even over a 50 mg/L can still be in remission, but obviously the lower the better. Sucks that I had 35.8 and saw blood less than two weeks later.


According to the chart it looks like the IBS group was below 30 for FCP.

The values that represent "good" might be lab dependent as well.

And blood in one bowel movement is not necessarily a pending disaster, as I think you know. If you're not intolerant of mesalamines, this would be the time to increase your rectal meds right?

Nobody has any comments on their fecal cal test experience or knowledge of the test/levels?
