IVIG Treatment for UC and Crohn's

I have seen a lot of posts on the success of UC/Crohn's patients with IVIG treatment. Since I have failed all treatments, I would like to give IVIG a shot but I understand it is way too expensive and 6 hours per infusion. I think I can deal with the 6 hours per infusion but not the costs. Initial studies have shown that many patients have gone into immediate remission with IVIG (~74%) http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17620224

I would like to pursue a compassionate trial or something else if anyone has a suggestion. Does anyone have any suggestions or tips for me?

Wish it worked for me. I have been having IVIG for 18years for a neurological condition I have and it works really well for that. It certainly didn't stop the uC. It is expensive each bottle costing about £400 (40g) Thank goodness for the UK NHS.

i don't think IVIG is approved for UC or Crohn's. I got it done for my anemia and peripheral neuropathy.

it is a very risky infusion though. i coded on my first one and never did another one after that. it was almost the last day of my life.

I don't believe IVIG is approved for either either. Normally it is not really very risky but adverse reactions can happen in some as it did with Banana. I think you are confusing the term " immediate remission". It can immediately work in some but then it wears off, just like the other biologics, requiring retreatment every few weeks.

that study was CD and not UC, and has not had replication in 7 years since published. This seems to work for some subset of CD patients, along with other medications. The mean remission in 8 patients followed was 20 mo, but they do not say what the shortest remission was. (Unethical statistics.)

It could help. Very few clinical studies, and hard to know. But very expensive, and some risk.

There is only compassionate access if somebody is developing it and headed towards FDA approval. This is developed, so I don't think compassionate access exists.

I think any insurance would require you to try and fail newer biologics first.
