Hi. Not sure I belong here, so gently let me know if i should go somewhere else. Currently being treated for chronic constipation and bowel incontinence. Things had been the same for a long long long time, sometimes getting a little better or worse, but generally the same symptoms/pattern.
I was on antibiotics for about 3 weeks. Finished them 1 1/2-2 weeks ago. I had been on Amoxicillan, Penicillan, and Cipro (not all at once. had to change a few times due to GI side effects.) Was taking them for an infection in the bone of my upper jaw.
1 1/2 weeks ago, began having multiple small BMs daily (what a surprise for me!), very soft/mushy, several accidents. Also had cramping, bloating, nausea. No change in diet or other meds. Did have some increase in stress. Yesterday, 8 med/large BMs in first 2 hours after I woke up. Rest of the day included 8 more BMs. 16 total in about 14 hours. about 18 hours since then with zero BMs. Still have the cramps, bloating, nausea.
I have talked w/ GI doc's staff multiple times in past couple of days. They say could be that I'm still very backed up and want me to do a bowel cleanse/prep stuff. Their other thought is it may be C. Diff. If bowel prep doesn't put things back to "normal" for me, they will test for that. Has anyone ever heard of C. Diff. appearing as a semi-formed, long, and rather narrow BM? What I have read all says it only presents as watery diarrhea.
I know, I am getting ahead of myself. Gotta do the prep first and see if that works. Just was very confused because things have changed so drastically recently. What the heck is going on in there?
Also wondering if there are any simple remedies for the cramping? Heat? Certain foods? I'd rather not take any additional meds, whether OTC, Rx, or supplements.
Once again, I wrote a book. Sorry.
Thanks for listening.
