Fosamax / Actonel experience

My mom (56, UC in remission) did DEXA scan and it showed Osteopenia from L1 to L5. The doctor prescribed Actonel (Fosamax's cousin). I refused that because of jaw bone and femur osteonecrosis issue. I got her Calcium Citrate, Magnesium Citrate, Vitamin D (5000IU) and couple of different formulations of Vit K (SuperK and another small dose Vit K2 from Doctor's Best) instead.

I was wondering if Fosamax or Actonel users (past/present) can post their experience here, just to confirm if my fear is valid.

My mom, aunts and grandmother all had big problems with osteoporosis. My grandmother was not treated back in those days and it caused severe back problems and a fractured hip. My mom and her older sister were both on fosamax for decades. My mom stopped because her doctor felt that it stopped working on everyone after 20 years. My aunt(age 95) is still on it. My mom has been on evista for the last 10 years instead and my aunt takes that also. Evista is very expensive but went generic in March. They were never were concerned with hip fracture deal and fosamax and felt it helped a great deal with bone loss. They both have very good posture for their age and are very active. My GM lived to 94 but was very limited physically after age 70.

Any idea what dose your aunt takes (60mg?) and daily frequency of it. I will try pitching it my mom's ortho.

Weight bearing exercise is not an option. Due to the state of L1 to L5, the doctor has asked not to pick up any weight. I am truly lost how to get her bones strengthen.
