I don't think it says anywhere that you cannot have food in your bowel when taking Salofalk enemas...makes no sense.
The point of the suggestion to have a bm (that doesn't mean food, per se, that means stool) is if you can have one then, then at least there won't be any in the lower part of the colon/sigmoid or in the rectum that might already be on its way out. The enema will stimulate easily to have a bm...so in reality, it's a waste of money and effort from my perspective. It's a suggestion....not a stipulation/"rule".
My normal to have a bm is in the morning....but on occasion, I've had the urge to have one in the late evening. If I seem to have the urge, I'll wait to have one. If it doesn't come, then I'll use the enema or even skip that night because of possible discomfort. If I'm flaring...most of my bms are in the morning/early day...especially after eating.
What you eat and when it gets into your lower colon through the digestive process has no correlation to using the enema.
Just use it....if you have the urge before, then go. If not, that should be a minor concern.
You'll get the hang of it as you get more experienced.
