Intermittent Bleeding

Hi Guys

Do any of you get intermittent bleeding? Is that a red flag? I often do not bleed with the first one bowel movement of the day but see blood either on the stool or some on the tissue on the 2nd0 one. It's usually not a lot of blood but enough to freak me out.

Obviously; patterns of bleeding can suggest a diagnosis and was wondering what patterns of bleeding others on here have.

I'm interested in this as well. I was symptom free from January until the beginning of April, and then I started bleeding again. My bleeding has been much like yours - a little bit of blood on the second or third BM of the day. It was every few days at first, but it's been pretty much every day for the last two weeks. Sometimes when there is no visible sign of blood, I can still smell it. No other symptoms at this point.

Have you previously been diagnosed with Colitis? Have y ou had hemorrhoids confirmed? I have the same symptoms.

No hemorrhoids, UC was diagnosed November 2013. I feel like my bleeding is coming from higher up (my UC goes to the end of my transverse colon). I have an appointment with my GI in three weeks, and I'm getting anxious to find out what he'll want to do.

i have the same problem, but i was told by my GI that in uc such small bleeding may occur due to a very weak mucus (which is my case) and, when there are no other symptoms, it doesn't have to be immflamation

Plus, what color are we talking about, red as in when you get a finger cut or little darker. That will tell you where its coming from.

Do you strain at the time of BM?

I have intermittent bleeding and the blood is bright red on tissue but looks maroon when coating the stool. So difficult to gauge. I don't get diarrhoea or constipation really just the blood although IBS and anxiety is always the trigger.

I have the same issue. I can have occasional blood with zero symptoms otherwise. It still concerns me though. I know a poster who used to be very active, Songlady, had a GI who told her that in a situation like that a little bit of blood was not very concerning.

I happen to be someone who can have pretty bad inflammation and very little physical symptoms, so I take it harder when I see or feel ANYTHING wrong than most would, I think.

I'm wondering what blood type you have? I have type O, which is the thinnest blood. I have read in several places that IBD folks with type O have more issues with blood than other blood types, which seems logical.

I am not sure what blood I have but Type O doesn't ring a bell. My colitis has always been on the mild side Thank God, but my anxiety makes my IBS worse which then kicks off piles. I am also like you; my mild symptoms have shown moderate inflammation in the past with patchy inflammation bordering on Crohn's but the biopsies usually say Non Specific Colitis.

Right now, I am having two BM's a day, blood maybe once a day or every 2 days, and its bright on tissue or coating the stool. Not concerning you say, but try telling that to a hypochondriac. Today I have had ZERO blood and not even any stool on the tissue, it's been dry and normal but NO blood. I tend to get the blood if I have looser stools and more frequency. Weird... and of course scary as I have no other symptoms like abdominal pain or constipation or watery diarrhea.

I would say I'm seeing a bit darker colored blood, no straining. I was going 1-2 times per day, but I'm up to 3-5 times, with blood every day (not every time) now. I wasn't all that concerned last month, but I'm starting to worry a bit with the increased frequency and blood every day. I hope I don't continue to slide back to where I was before.

My blood type is B+.
