Very exciting. Hoping those that try it out soon share their experience--particularly interested in cost/coverage with insurance plans. I'm doing alright at the moment but my GI is prepared to put me on this for my next major flare as I cannot tolerate TNF blockers--just hoping that is years from now.

The fact that people in the placebo group reached remission is not surprising at all. 1) People enter remission naturally all the time 2) The placebo effect is UNBELIEVABLY strong.

Making someone believe they are going to heal will induce physiological changes in the body, often for the better. Believing in the self also goes a long way...

Exactly, hence the need for double or even triple blinded studies

I know that and it explains why alternative treatments get what appears to be positive results and why acedotal medicine isn't worth much with UC. These people had refractory UC. I think the general UC population gets a higher response to placebo.

This drug appears to be valuable for maintenance but you still are going to need steriods to induce remission 90% of the time in people that 5asas don't work on.

You can induce remission with many other things not only steroids.

I called Health Canada, and after a bunch of run around, its status is apparently "confidential". They woudlnt even confirm that an application has been submitted.... But someone else on the forum mentioned that it is expected to be approved in about 8 months or so

Yeah ncot, entyvio is a silly name...but the name Vedoluzib is wierd too..lol.

It does sound a bit weird, but most of the name, 'vedolizumab', would have been named according to a particular system for naming drugs. -mab is used for monoclonal antibodies, -zu is used for humanized antibodies, -li is used for the immune system. Only the 'vedo' prefix would essentially be made-up and have no scientific meaning.

Same applies for all the biologics: Remicade (infliximab), Humira (adulimumab), etc. Brand names, however, can be anything the manufacturer wants them to be: including Entyvio.

NCOT: Giving people more info than they ever asked for since 2010.

huh, better than Australia! you have to wait for like atleast 5 years to get any sort of accreditation. You can get it without accreditation but you have to pay alot of money. And beg your GI ofcourse.
